Outreach and Health Education Programme by Hero DMC Heart Institute
Under the initiative of the Outreach and Health Education Programme at
DMC&H, Dr. Bishav Mohan, Chief Cardiologist HDHI, and Dr. Naveen Mittal,
Professor & Head of the Department of Endocrinology, were invited by the
Director General of Police (DGP) to organize a comprehensive awareness session
for the police force on two of the most prevalent lifestyle diseases:
hypertension and diabetes.
Hypertension Awareness by Dr. Bishav Mohan
Dr. Bishav Mohan highlighted the often unnoticed nature of high blood pressure,
which can reach severe levels before being detected. He emphasized the critical
importance of early diagnosis and preventive measures in managing
hypertension. Dr. Mohan elaborated on lifestyle factors contributing to
high blood pressure, such as high salt intake, insufficient physical activity,
and stress—especially pertinent to high-stress occupations like policing. He
also stressed the need for regular blood pressure monitoring as an essential
preventive tool for those at risk.
Diabetes Awareness by Dr. Naveen Mittal
Dr. Naveen Mittal discussed the rising prevalence of diabetes, particularly
Type 2 diabetes, which can often be prevented or delayed through lifestyle
modifications. He shared valuable insights on the different types of diabetes,
focusing on the importance of regular blood sugar monitoring, adherence to
prescribed medication, and adopting healthy lifestyle changes, including
increased physical activity and a balanced diet. Dr. Mittal emphasized that
with proper management, individuals can lead healthy lives despite the
challenges posed by diabetes.
The session was attended by over 3000 police personnel, underscoring
the significant need for ongoing health education and awareness in
high-pressure occupations. This initiative is part of DMC&H’s commitment to
fostering a healthier community by addressing the key lifestyle diseases that
affect many individuals in today’s world.
HDHI remains dedicated to providing comprehensive health
education programs to promote wellness and prevention, ensuring that
individuals from all walks of life are equipped with the knowledge to maintain
